Benjamin G. Gardner –
I was looking for a basic, classic, solid watch that was reasonably priced and durable. After four hours of research, I settled on this watch–and I haven’t been disappointed in this first week of ownership. This is, indeed, a timepiece that harks back to the classics and IS a classic. It is solidly built, has beautiful lines and is easy to read. It also has a much lower profile than most of the dive watches that people wear nowadays, which is important to me since I wear long sleeves at work. Big watches tend to fray my cuffs right away. This Expedition slips right under my cuff and works well with whatever outfit I am wearing.
I read the extensive reviews left here, and the two (possible) negatives about this watch relate to the leather band and the indiglo function.
First, and while it’s true that the thick, genuine leather band is stiff and possibly a bit too long if you have an extremely thin wrist, it is of quality, durable construction, and after 4 days of wear is limbering up nicely. I’ll keep you posted as to how the leather wears over the coming year(s). I am also looking to get some leather balm to apply to the band for hydration and protection. Also, since I work in an office environment and have a Timex Ironman for my biking/jogging activities, I’m not sure that I’ll have the problem some others have noted on here of the leather strap wearing out within two years. Again, I’ll keep you posted!
Secondly, the indiglo light does light up with the slightest pressure. Just wear your watch a bit higher on your wrist to keep the date/time bezel from rubbing against your hand. Alternately, if your wear a FitBit on your left wrist (like I do), wearing the watch on your right hand fixes that issue.
I highly recommend this product. With the purchase of this watch, I’m out of the watch-buying market for a decade–at least!

Beautiful field watch. The band takes few days to be soften.
I have one complain that it arrives me by outer box broken and the watch is open and exposed. But it reaches me without any damage.

I collect watches, primarily analog types, and prefer the classic and military styles. The current trend toward mounting a clock on your arm and calling it a watch seems silly to me and I don’t think the fad will last. After all, a fad last a season, a classic last forever!
Even though I have a lot of watches I don’t wear most of them. When I needed an everyday work watch I went looking to an old standby, Timex. I found this particular model (T40091) appealing because it mixes a simple classic style with some modern conveniences such as a very reliable quartz movement and the ingeneous indiglo light feature. The watch is the perfect size for a full grown man and is made of brushed stainless steel, like a serious watch should be. Upon very close inspection I could find no flaws in the case, the machining was simply perfect.
The glass fit perfectly and is flush with the bezel. I wish it had been slightly recessed but its okay. I like how they put a slight raise in the case around the crown to act as a protective guard. The face of the watch is very simple and easy to read. I even like the slightly odd face color. It’s somewhere between a dark olive drab and gray and in certain light it can appear black. It gives the watch an older look, as if its been around for twenty or thirty years. The hands are pretty standard and the luminous hands work but just barely. In a watch of this price range its fine and besides you have the indiglo feature so its really not needed. About the only thing I wish this watch had is a cyclops over the date. My eyes aren’t what the used to be and seeing that little date is getting harder every year. This watch also has the hack feature so setting the time accurately is easy. I have a habit of checking it almost daily (a little OCD).
Things I wish Timex would change…add the cyclops over the date, remove the extra face writing to make it even simpler, make the secondary numerals just a tad larger, change the band.
The band is not bad but seems to come a little small. I have medium sized wrists for a man and it fits me on the second to last hole. I seems like they should have made it about a 1/2″ longer. I plan to replace the stock band with a NATO band so this isn’t a big deal.
Overall, I think you can’t go wrong with a Timex

I bought this watch to replace my Casio forester watch whose strap pin holes enlarged to the point that the strap would not stay on reliably. I decided to go with a metal case instead of plastic so this would not happen again. The Casio also had a tiny battery that did not last long. This watch has the look and feel of quality. The stainless case has a finely brushed finish that is classic. The dial as others have said is a medium gray rather than the dark gray that is depicted in the pictures but I think this this goes better with the stainless case anyway. There is still sufficient contrast between it and the hands to make it very readable. The date is also very easy to read. Unlike some other reviewers, I really like the combination brown leather and black nylon webbing band. I find it very comfortable and think it looks great too. If it does not last it can be easily replaced. Other reviewers have said that the ticking is very loud. I would have to disagree. In a quiet environment the watch has to be within 15″ of my ear and facing my ear before I hear it. It is not noticeable at all. I also find that the time and date are easier to set than my old Casio forester; I do not have trouble finding the spot where the date can be adjusted. The indiglo is also a very nice feature that illuminates the dial very evenly. All in all I am very impressed with the watch so far. It looks and feels like a more expensive watch. I bought it as my work watch (I’m in construction) but it’s almost too nice for that. I will update if there are any reliability issues that come up.
Update: After 2-1/2 years of daily abuse the knob for setting the time came off while gardening. That’s a pretty long time for such an inexpensive watch to last for me. I’ll be buying another similar Timex Expedition watch.

I have been a TIMEX Indiglo fanboy for decades now. Even though I had upgraded to smart watches of the likes of Apple Watch & Samsung Galaxy, I eventually landed up having these TIMES Indiglo on my wrist most of the times in conjunction with MI Smart Band) on my other wrist.
Needless to say for those who know… The INDIGLO is a soothing light for your eyes when in the dark.
