Over my 40 years of surfing, I’ve tried various surfer brand watches, mostly tide models, with some in the $200 range. Among them, my favorites have been the Freestyle watches, especially the Shark Tide, which stands out as the best tide and surf watch I’ve experienced. However, the Casio Unisex MRW200H-4BV, despite not featuring tide functions, has a less conspicuous surf look that I’ve come to appreciate, often receiving compliments for its understated style despite its lower price point.
For the past 18 months, this Casio watch has been my constant companion, accompanying me on my weekly surf sessions and beyond. Its durability and water resistance have impressed me, as well as its lightweight design. Notably, it fits comfortably under a wetsuit sleeve due to its moderate size. The crystal remains unscathed by sand or any other activities I engage in outside of surfing. The minor inconveniences are the date adjustment for months with fewer than 31 days and a sometimes stiff bezel, but these are minor issues considering the watch’s affordability. And should it ever get lost, its cost-effectiveness means I can easily replace it without a second thought.

First, let’s put things in context: I paid just $31 for this watch. This isn’t a Rolex or any other premium brand, and I knew that when I ordered it. But when it arrived, my first impressions were mixed. The watch was smaller than I expected and less metallic than I’d imagined based on the pictures. At first glance, it felt like a cheap watch for a cheap price. But then I put it on my wrist, it started to make sense. The Casio MRW-200HD wears much smaller than its advertised size. Although some sellers claim it’s a bold 43mm, it feels more like a 38mm on the wrist. That’s not a bad thing. This understated size is what makes it such a surprising gem.As someone who typically gravitates toward large-faced watches, I was skeptical. But this watch taught me an important lesson: smaller can be just as impressive. It sits comfortably, looks sleek, and transitions well between casual and semi-formal settings. If you’re someone considering classical watches, the MRW-200HD is the perfect stepping stone. It offers an accessible entry point into appreciating the versatility and charm of more understated timepieces. That started as a $31 gamble ended with me reevaluating my preferences. No, it’s not a premium watch, but it doesn’t need to be. The Casio MRW-200HD-78VCF is proof that good things can come in small packages, and you don’t need a 44mm+ watch to make a statement. I will recommend this watch any day. Just experience the size and fit for a very affordable price, you will be surprised.

Me gustó mucho, el color dorado de sus números e índice lo hace ver muy bien. El bisel giratorio es un buen plus. Totalmente recomendable.

The title is not hyperbole; this watch really is quite literally the very best watch in the world for the money. Let’s do a quick run-down of its features:
1. Tells time
2. Tells day
3. Tells date
4. Water resistant to 100m (330 feet)
5. Solid plastic/rubber construction
6. Glow in the dark dial and numbers
We’ll take it by the numbers.
1. Tells time. This is the minimum that this watch should do. In my experience, it tells time as accurately as my Citizen and Seiko watches that cost hundreds of dollars more.
2. Tells day. This is a big deal. This watch actually tells you what day of the week it is. It may not sound like a big deal, but when you get older, this is a very important feature.
3. Tells date. Most watches of some quality will do this, but to do so with the day as well? In a watch this inexpensive? Holy calendars, Batman, this watch does BOTH!
4. Water resistant to 100m. Unless you’re Jaques Cousteau, you’re not going to find yourself alive 100m below the surface of the water. This watch will still be ticking even if you drop it into the lake or swimming pool, or if you take a swim with the fishes under the pier. If it’s the latter, at least you can look at the watch and know the time of your demise.
5. Solid plastic and rubber construction. This is a good deal. Why? Because it weighs so little, you don’t feel it’s on your wrist. It’s also a nice matte finish which is quite stylish these days.
6. Glow in the dark dial and hands. This is a great thing. In my experience, it glows bright and long after a light source threw some photons at it. What’s better is in the scenario above, where the watch wearer finds himself swimming with the fishes under the pier, if it’s dark, the glow in the dark dial and hands will aid and assist in visibility if it’s dark (and water gets dark the deeper you get).
To sum it up, for the price, you cannot get a better quality watch with this many features. I tried. I looked for days and days, and while there are cheaper watches out there, they cannot match the quality or the features.Trust me, this is the best deal in time/day/date telling wrist-wear.
Final comment: I’ve worn expensive watches all my life, and when I had to put them all into the watch hospital for repair, I bought this watch so that I can at least tell time. Do you know what happened? More people noticed this watch and commented on its awesomeness than they did when I wore my much nicer and more expensive watches. Not that I wear my watches to get comments, but if I did, this one would have been a much better return on my money than the others.
I hope this review helps. Bottom line: if you need a watch that does it all for under $20 and will last and last, then buy this watch. If you want to throw money away, then look elsewhere. This might very well be the best deal in the universe.
matt’s long commute –
I am hard on watches typically. I wear them in all weather and in physically demanding work situations. Casio is my go to brand for durable , lightweight watches. I usually have a Casio Solar (similar to this style but with analog/digital face. Black with Irange letters.
However this white on white full analog is much easier to see in most lights. This is a simple day/date watch . I love the watch face and the comfort belying its inexpensive cost. This has great water resistance (100m) and a large dial.
Dislikes are minimal especially measured against the cost. The lume is laughable and I really which the hand were a different color (white and white is sometimes hard to read) . There is a pop of red when the “SUN” is displayed in the date window. Nice touch.
I also have no idea what Casio uses in their resin bands but to me they are incredibly comfortable.

I have no delusions about what I have bought, it is an in-expensive watch but it looks good. That is what attracted me to this watch. We will wait and se how the “resin” case stands up to life.
Happy Camper –
This is probably the most practical watch I’ve ever owned. White background and black letters visually easy to read. Date and day is a bonus as is the 24 hour face. Bought it on sale which even made the purchase sweeter.

This watch is the very best watch you can buy for what you pay. It keeps perfect time and is rugged. I live on a small farm, I live outdoors doing daily chores and I never take it off. I wore a Rolex for 40 years and this watch keeps better time! Perfect time.
